The People Here Are a Ton of Fun
A couple weeks ago I started a new job at a new shoe store. My daily life is basically the same, but it’s dumb, hopeful thoughts like, “Maybe selling shoes out of this other building will be better!” that get you through life. On my last day at the first store, I had to train a new employee. It was her first day, and it was my last day, and after speaking for about two minutes we realized that we were literally just switching jobs. She was taking the job at the store that I worked at, and I was about to take a job at the store that she had worked at. And we both had this terrible realization that the grass is never greener. Then we gave each other a look that said, “We’re both cool with lying to each other right now, right?” So we did. “The managers there are super chill,” she said. I told her the people here are “a ton of fun” or something weird like that. And then we parted ways and agreed to suffer potentially years of consequences for that one moment of complete dishonesty. I’m 13 days in. This new shoe store sucks.
