Spent the extra $3 on the French press
My boss is full of shit. I bought one of those $25 French presses at Target to bring to work so I don’t keep buying $5 cups of coffee twice a day. When I went to Target, I couldn’t decide if should buy the $25 French press or the $22 Mr. Coffee coffee maker. I went with the French press, mostly because I work at a shoe store. As shoe store sales associates, we are low enough in society that I’m confident my coworkers will absolutely use my coffee and coffee maker when I’m not around, but if it’s a French press, they’ll probably just be like, “Well, I don’t know what the fuck to do with that thing.”
So I spent the extra $3 on the French press and brought it to work the next day. My boss walked in for the late shift, came down to the breakroom, saw the French press, and asked whose it was. I told him it was mine. He said he was already planning on buying a coffee maker for the breakroom. I’m sure he was. You said that on your first day, buddy. That was almost a year ago. Still no coffee in the breakroom. Nice of you to throw that out there, though.
About an hour later he walks up to me and goes, “Alright, let’s talk about this coffee situation.” Oh, let’s do that! “Because we have options,” he says. “We could go with a French press, or we could go with a coffee maker. I prefer French press personally. But it’s a little more maintenance. Or, I could buy one of those Mr. Coffee coffee makers. It’s easier to use, but the coffee isn’t as good. I’m just saying, they both have their pros and cons, so there are some things to consider.” As if there hasn’t been any coffee in the breakroom the last 10 months because he’s been mulling over these tough questions.
I already skipped the Mr. Coffee, dude. Went straight to French press. Stop trying to get involved. You’re not going to buy a Mr. Coffee or a French press anyway, we both know that. Someone already brought an electric kettle to work. Now we have a French press. We’re good now. Thanks for the quick recap of the Mr. Coffee vs French press debate, though. Super helpful. Loved the “pros and cons” angle. It’ll be a nice resource to refer back to when some idiot drops and shatters the French press tomorrow. For now, just stop talking. I gotta go make more coffee.
